What kind of wildlife might I see while exploring Mallorca's natural areas?

Dawn and dusk bring the island's wildlife to life, especially in quieter spots like the Serra de Tramuntana or the salt flats near Ses Salines. Early risers might catch sight of the native Mallorcan midwife toad, a rare amphibian found in the island’s streams and ponds. Birdwatchers have excellent chances of spotting raptors such as Bonelli’s eagle soaring above the Tramuntana peaks, as well as buzzards and kestrels. By the coasts, herons and cormorants are frequent visitors, especially along the quieter coves like Cala Mondragó or the rugged cliffs near Formentor. Marshy areas around Alcúdia and Pollensa attract flamingos and various waders during migration seasons. Hikers and cyclists can occasionally spot wild goats navigating the rocky slopes, and the forests conceal European rabbits and hedgehogs. While mammals are generally elusive, the rich biodiversity makes every stroll or bus ride on the TIB network a chance to discover the island's natural charm.
