When is the best time to go mountain biking on the island?

The prime season for mountain biking mainly spans from late spring through early autumn, when the Serra de Tramuntana trails are at their driest and most inviting. In May and June, the landscape bursts with blooming wildflowers and fresh greenery, providing stunning scenery as you cycle between Valldemossa, Deià, and Sóller. Temperatures are pleasantly mild, often cool in the mornings, making it comfortable to tackle both steep climbs and forested paths without the intense summer heat.

During July and August, the trails can get quite busy, especially around popular routes near Formentor and the Ma-10 road. Early mornings and evenings are the best times to ride, avoiding the hottest parts of the day when temperatures can climb high. This period also coincides with local cycling events, where enthusiasts gather in towns like Alcúdia or Pollença to race or explore new routes together. The extended daylight hours offer ample time to discover more challenging terrain.

September and October offer cooler, crisp air and less crowded trails, ideal for exploring lesser-known paths around Cala Mondragó or the rugged Ma-19 coastline. The autumnal light casts an atmospheric glow across the island’s rugged peaks and pine forests, enhancing the experience. Regardless of when you come, the diverse terrain and well-maintained routes ensure rewarding rides for all levels, but late spring to early fall truly captures the essence of cycling here.
