When the popular beaches near Palma or Alcudia feel too crowded, seeking out one of the island’s more tucked-away coves can be a refreshing change of pace. Along the southeastern coast, Cala Llombards remains relatively peaceful compared to Es Trenc, offering a beautiful stretch of turquoise water and fine sand framed by pine trees and limestone cliffs. The cove’s more limited parking and access by narrow roads help keep the numbers down, especially outside of August. Another secluded spot is the small cove at Cala s’Almunia, near the village of Manacor, where crystal-clear waters and dramatic rocky surroundings invite quiet swimming and snorkeling.

Further north, the Formentor Peninsula shelters several hidden inlets that are less busy than the main Formentor beach. Hiking a short path down from the Ma-2210 road leads to Cala Figuera, a peaceful pebble cove ideal for a tranquil afternoon. Using the TIB bus to places like Pollenca and then walking to smaller bays on the Tramuntana coast also reveals charming spots often missed by day-trippers. Late spring and early October are especially good times to explore, when the island’s most famous coves still hold their calm atmosphere and gentle light for relaxing by the sea.
