When are snakes most active in the natural areas of Mallorca?

Along the winding trails of the Serra de Tramuntana, snakes tend to be most active during the warmer months, typically from late spring to early autumn. As temperatures climb, especially between May and September, they become more visible, often basking on sunny rocks or quietly hunting in the underbrush early in the morning or as the heat eases in the late afternoon. During midsummer, the combination of warmth and humidity further encourages their activity, though they may retreat to shaded groves or cool crevices during the hottest midday hours.

With the arrival of cooler autumn weather, their activity gradually lessens, and many species enter a dormant phase during the winter months. While hiking near spots like Cala Mondrago or the Ma-10 coastal road, it’s wise to stay alert, as snakes favor undisturbed habitats such as dry stone walls, pinewoods, and scrubland.
